If you're looking for a quiet, hole in the wall breakfast spot, you've found it. If you're taking your family of five on a quick breakfast stop, absolutely not. It took a little longer than I was prepared for to get served but the potato pancakes were to DIE for, the coffee was decent and the staff, just Sophia and one other women, were so kind. The locals were there to tell us what to try and you can tell it's the place you keep coming back to.

I just love Sophia's for what it is. I won't drag this review out so..
If you are looking for fast food or a spacious, open atmosphere, this is not the place to stop. Sophia's is a little gem with comfort and Polish foods in a very small storefront, where the food is great.
If you are are looking for Polish food, a quiet breakfast out, and can spare some time, Sophia's is right up your alley. Pop in! -

This is a classic, old-school place. Homespun is an understatement.
At first glance, it appeared closed - but for the "open" sign in the door. Thick European lace curtains and Venetian blinds serve to insulate the humble restaurant from winter weather, but obliterate any light from within.
Breakfast was lovely. I had two over easy, best buddy had a Western omelette. Breakfast potatoes were savory and nicely-textured. We declined catsup because the squeeze bottles were refrigerated. At home we don't refrigerate catsup. No big deal.
White toast was unremarkable. No jelly nor preserves were offered with the toast.
Coffee was lackluster, as was orange juice, - we prepare better at home.
The warm, unobtrusive woman who served us and cooked our order is no doubt Sophia herself. Best buddy detected her accent and ventured to express thanks in Russian. She perked up, and touted her homemade Borscht (she misspells it "borsh") as well as goulash, pierogies and roast chicken.
Go here for breakfast, or the novelty of a "bowl of Borscht and half a sandwich ($7.99) and re-visit the home of one's grandmother, or eccentric older relative of some sort. And save room for homemade apple pie ($3.99) with a scoop of ice cream ($1.50 extra).
Breakfast for two a la carte, plus juice and coffee, was $19.50. We did the math and realized we'd paid $3.00 for coffee, each, but tipped her 50% merely because she was so warm - and, at 9:30 on a Friday morning, completely alone, but for our company. -

What a lovely little place! Sophia is a sweetheart, and the food she makes reflects that! A cozy little room, nothing fancy, but it feels at home. Potato pancakes to die for... I will be back.

Really like the food, been here a few times and always enjoyed the food
The owner is very nice and extremely generous, I ask for extra sautéed onion for the perogies and she really gives more than you can eat, same for sour cream for the potato pancakes.
The perogies are really good, better than any place you're gonna find on Broad St in Little Poland in New Britain (and there are great perogies there as well)
The breakfast menu is also good.
During the summer there are a few tables outside so you can enjoy the sun
Only downside is that she closes at 5PM so you can do weekend or need to take a day off work....which isn't a bad idea every once in a while anyway lol..
